she's a star....

my daughter Katie posing in a Calamity Jane cut out at the Stacy Center Winter Festival in Princeton, MO.

Calamity Jane is a star...of books (historical, fictional, biographical), movies, I bought a Calamity Jane doll from a Western series, & tv series. My daughter Katie even wrote a report about her in 4th grade for her Famous Missourian report!

on the Princeton square

this is my daughter Katie on the square in Princeton, MO, with some of the Flat Stacies visiting our Girl Scout Troop. The stone gives a brief history of Calamity Jane.

Calamity Jane---a Princeton Girl

these pictures were taken at the "Birthplace" near Ravanna, MO, starring my daughter Katie & her miniature daschund Sasha Rose.

ask anyone. Princeton celebrates Calamity Jane Days the 3rd weekend in September, complete with car show, parade, flea market, golf tournament, & Miss Calamity Jane Pagaent.

In the past, Princeton has been home to The Princeton Locker featuring Calamity Jane meats (a cowgirl on every package!) & a store called Calamity Jane Junction featuring crafts, collectibles, etc.

Princeton currently has a Calamity Jane Roadside Park on Highway 65 north of Princeton, a marker on the Princeton square, & a sign at her birthplace near Ravanna, on Fleetwood St. near the present PSF Hedgewood sites.

Calamity Jane's birthdate varies according to source..according to Missouri Census she was born May 1855. In her bio she was born May 1 1862. Her grandfather bought the farm in 1856. He parents were married June 14 1855 in Des Moines, IA.

Princeton claims her. She did reside in Mercer County for a time, but was she born there? And does it really matter? She was a character for her age, not following the norm. She did things that women just didn't do back then.
